Belgian leisure parks merge

The popular Ice Mountain adventure park in the west of Belgium has announced it has taken over the Jungle City amusement park in Tournai, writes Martin Banks.

The park’s new owner, Stephane Fievez, said the aim is to improve facilities for children up to the age of 12.

The amusement park offers activities across 10,000 square metres, with an indoor and outdoor playground, indoor mini-golf, a restaurant with outdoor terrace, animals and a petting zoo.

Fievez, who already owns Ice Mountain and Vijverhof, said the opening date will be announced at a later date once Belgium’s Security Council has given the green light for such places to reopen in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

In the meantime, the park will be completely renovated and many new attractions will be added.

The amusement park in Tournai is located 30km from Comines and 25km from Wevelgem, each well connected by road.

Fievez said, “When you look at all of our activities, we have a very wide choice for a very diverse target audience. In addition, the different activities are complementary to each other”.

Jungle Park has built a good reputation, attracting visitors from northern France as well as Belgium, and its most recent attractions include magic shows, holiday camps, new birthday formulas and electric mini quads.

It is ideal for the family and also birthday parties, holiday camps, corporate team building incentives and educational outings for schools.

Ice Mountain itself was founded in 1999, Belgium’s only indoor ski slope at the time, and has proved a hit for sports activities for young and old, in summer and winter.

In addition to ski slopes, paintball, tree climbing, a specialty store and two restaurants have been added over the years.

In 2016, indoor skydiving was added. This is a technical sport which, using powerful turbines, simulates the thrills of skydiving. Four turbines with a combined power of 2,000hp produce an upward air flow. This makes it possible to create resistance which makes the user feel a flight comparable to an airplane jump at 4,000m.

Ice Mountain also changed its name to Ice Mountain Adventure Park Comines – Indoor & Outdoor Adventure. Currently, ski-ing, snowboarding, indoor skydiving, laser games, paintball and archery adventure are all available.
