Los Argentinos, 75 Staatsbaan Lanaken The Argentine Pampas comes to Belgium!
If you appreciate great steak then you’ll love it here, all the more so as much of the meat comes directly from Argentina, the home of beef, whose quality is derived from the grass the cattle feed on.
Its Egyptian-born owner, Safa Faltas has been serving up delicious meat dishes here for nearly two decades and some of his meat also comes from Brazil and Uruguay. Regardless of its country of origin, it’s all fantastic.
Favourites include the ‘Carne Parillade Mixta’, a meat assortment served on a grill, and ‘Beef Ancho’. It’s not easy to choose and, if you can’t decide, try the very tasty ‘Combinado De Pollo’ consisting of spare ribs, rump steak and rib eye.
All the meats come with a great selection of yummy accompanying sauces but, if meat isn’t your thing, there’s a 3-course ‘Menu of the Sea’ featuring a selection of seafood. Veggies are also catered for with a nice choice of salads while there’s a very pleasant house wine.
Don’t be fooled by the restaurant’s slightly under-stated outside appearance: you’re guaranteed a very warm reception and the décor, resembling something you might find on an Argentina Pampas, is a sheer delight. Nothing is left to chance – even the seat back rests are made from genuine cowhide.
As well as the food, service and décor Los Argentinos is notable for the prestigious quality label it was awarded a few years back. It has also been highly commended in a ‘blind meat comparison’ test (like wine tasting but for meat).
Situated on the Belgian-Dutch border, this lovely, welcoming steak house is well a trip. As the Flemish say: “Smakelijk Eten!”
